Welcome Back!

Greetings, Fellow (e)Tigers,

Wel¬≠come to the Eye of the Tiger eKi¬≠wa¬≠nis Club for the 2019‚Äď20 Kiwa¬≠nis year. Thank you to return¬≠ing mem¬≠bers for the part that you played in open¬≠ing 434 new clubs in the 2018‚Äď19 Kiwa¬≠nis year and 411 new clubs in the 2017‚Äď18 Kiwa¬≠nis year and also achiev¬≠ing net growth in that year. Thanks to you, we have strength¬≠ened the orga¬≠ni¬≠za¬≠tion that we dear¬≠ly love, helped oth¬≠ers learn how to open new clubs, and brought in many new mem¬≠bers of diverse ages, eth¬≠nic¬≠i¬≠ties, and gen¬≠ders to serve the chil¬≠dren of the world. And wel¬≠come to our new members.

We owe a big thanks to Immediate Past President Gary Levine for his outstanding leadership during our first year of existence and to the other officers, Secretary Alan Guire and Treasurer, Valarie Brown-Klingelhoefer; and Board Members Katrina Baranko, Bob Larsen, and Carson Schreiber for their leadership. Thank you also to our Kiwanis International Immediate Past President, Sage, and Head Tiger Jim Rochford for his always wise leadership, counsel, and inspiration. And thank you and kudos to our current Assistant Secretary, Julia Levine, for developing this newsletter.

I hope that you are famil¬≠iar with our fan¬≠tas¬≠tic web¬≠site devel¬≠oped by Past Pres¬≠i¬≠dent Gary Levine: Kiwanistiger.com and with the field guide on the site. It lists our goals:

  • Open a new Kiwa¬≠nis club at the site of the Inter¬≠na¬≠tion¬≠al Convention,
  • Train Kiwa¬≠ni¬≠ans how to open new Kiwa¬≠nis clubs, and
  • Per¬≠pet¬≠u¬≠ate and con¬≠tin¬≠ue to devel¬≠op the Eye of the Tiger new club open¬≠ing method¬≠ol¬≠o¬≠gy honed in the 2017‚Äď18 Kiwa¬≠nis year.

And, of course, part of our mission from our very first meeting is to develop leaders at district and international levels in the culture of growing Kiwanis.

Toward that end, we agreed at our first board meet¬≠ing of this year to add mem¬≠bers to our club in the North Amer¬≠i¬≠can dis¬≠tricts in which we do not cur¬≠rent¬≠ly have mem¬≠bers: Kansas, Ken¬≠tucky-Ten¬≠nessee, Min¬≠neso¬≠ta-Dako¬≠tas, Mon¬≠tana, Nebras¬≠ka-Iowa, New York, Ohio, Pacif¬≠ic North¬≠west, South¬≠west, Texas-Okla¬≠homa, Utah-Ida¬≠ho, West¬≠ern Cana¬≠da, and Wis¬≠con¬≠sin-Upper Michi¬≠gan. So if you know like¬≠ly mem¬≠bers from those dis¬≠tricts, please bring them into the club. We also need mem¬≠bers from around the world; we are for¬≠tu¬≠nate to have Richard Lim of Malaysia as one of our mem¬≠bers, and we want to add mem¬≠bers from Asia Pacif¬≠ic, Europe, South/Central Amer¬≠i¬≠ca, and Africa. We are ask¬≠ing every cur¬≠rent mem¬≠ber to recruit one new mem¬≠ber into the Eye of the Tiger eKi¬≠wa¬≠nis Club.

Many coun¬≠tries around the world cel¬≠e¬≠brate a har¬≠vest fes¬≠ti¬≠val by giv¬≠ing thanks. I under¬≠stand that in Malaysia, the cel¬≠e¬≠bra¬≠tion is in May; in Cana¬≠da, it is in Octo¬≠ber; in the U.S. it is in Novem¬≠ber. At Thanks¬≠giv¬≠ing time, I think of all the things for which I am thank¬≠ful. I am thank¬≠ful for each and every one of you and your self¬≠less giv¬≠ing of time, tal¬≠ent, and trea¬≠sure to open new Kiwa¬≠nis clubs. We must keep Kiwa¬≠nis strong and vital to serve the chil¬≠dren of the world.

Let’s grow!

Barb Thompson
