Tiger News!

There were 68 mem¬≠bers and guests present on their com¬≠put¬≠ers or phones for our Kiwa¬≠nis Eye of the Tiger e‚ÄĎclub meet¬≠ing held on the evening of May 21st. Our club enjoyed host¬≠ing an inter¬≠club with Divi¬≠sion 25 of East¬≠ern Cana¬≠da and the Caribbean Dis¬≠trict. With every area of the world con¬≠fronting the cur¬≠rent pan¬≠dem¬≠ic, it is good to know that Kiwa¬≠ni¬≠ans con¬≠tin¬≠ue to remain connected.

We were delight¬≠ed to wel¬≠come Jose Velasquez from Colum¬≠bia with able trans¬≠la¬≠tion by EOT Past Inter¬≠na¬≠tion¬≠al Trustee Chuck Gugli¬≠uz¬≠za along with Flori¬≠da‚Äôs Past Gov¬≠er¬≠nor Steve LeBlanc and our Inter¬≠na¬≠tion¬≠al Trustee Coun¬≠cil¬≠lor Greg Beard, as guests on our zoom call. Do I envi¬≠sion three more appli¬≠ca¬≠tions being sent out?

EOT mem¬≠ber Coleen Law¬≠son-Tay¬≠lor from the Prov¬≠i¬≠dence- Mon¬≠tego Bay Kiwa¬≠nis Club, Divi¬≠sion 25, was the cat¬≠a¬≠lyst to engage fel¬≠low Kiwa¬≠ni¬≠ans from her Divi¬≠sion to attend our meet¬≠ing. From the Kiwa¬≠nis Clubs of Hopewell, Prov¬≠i¬≠dence Mon¬≠tego Bay, Mon¬≠tego Bay-Freeport, Bethel Town, Coastal Trelawny, San¬≠ta Cruz and Rose Hall, we were delight¬≠ed to wel¬≠come all. It was won¬≠der¬≠ful to also see Dis¬≠tin¬≠guished Gov¬≠er¬≠nors Bob¬≠by Moo Young and Hope Marks join¬≠ing us along with so many Pres¬≠i¬≠dents, Sec¬≠re¬≠taries and club mem¬≠bers from Jamaica.

We con¬≠grat¬≠u¬≠late East¬≠ern Cana¬≠da and Caribbean‚Äôs Imme¬≠di¬≠ate Past Gov¬≠er¬≠nor Mel Clarke for receiv¬≠ing the Dis¬≠tin¬≠guished sta¬≠tus for his year as one of only two Dis¬≠tricts in North Amer¬≠i¬≠ca to achieve that hon¬≠our. Mem¬≠ber¬≠ship growth made it possible.

Our own club con¬≠tin¬≠ues to focus on growth. Pres¬≠i¬≠dent Barb Thomp¬≠son was excit¬≠ed to be able to induct PG PNW Roger Bell, appro¬≠pri¬≠at¬≠ing wear¬≠ing a tiger tie, PG New Jer¬≠sey Dis¬≠trict Michael Mul¬≠haul sport¬≠ing a covid beard, Kel¬≠ly Pena show¬≠cas¬≠ing the Kiwa¬≠nis green screen and Kendra Skid¬≠more eager to get out doing Kiwa¬≠nis work again. We con¬≠tin¬≠ue on the road to build¬≠ing a stronger Kiwa¬≠nis through those ded¬≠i¬≠cat¬≠ed to grow¬≠ing new clubs, fos¬≠ter¬≠ing lead¬≠ers and ser¬≠vice to others.

We are happy to announce the election of officers for the upcoming Kiwanis year. Thank you to those who have offered their leadership expertise to help our club move forward. Moved by Past International President Jim Rochford and seconded by Past International Trustee Gary Levine that our slate of officers was acclaimed.
